"Off The Hook" was far from the only show that Emmanuel Goldstein has
hosted. In years past, he was involved with another radio station,
WUSB 90.1 FM, broadcasting from the State University of New York at
Stony Brook. The station was affiliated with the university but also
had heavy community involvement and its signal reached a good part of
Long Island, as well as coastal regions of Connecticut. WUSB existed
as an AM carrier current station since the 1960's and went on the FM airwaves
with 4,000 watts on June 27, 1977. They've been broadcasting ever since
with an eclectic mix of music and talk. Their website and broadcast
link can be found at http://www.wusb.org.
"Brain Damage" was a two hour call-in show hosted by Emmanuel (using
the name Eric Corley) which aired from 1988 to 1995. The show covered
all kinds of serious topics as well as non-serious ones. Favorite regular
features included Confuse The Operator, highlights from Radio Moscow,
and a reading of the lunch menu by the university lunch lady. Callers
contributed their over-the-phone songs, stories of their lives, and
features such as the "Math Teacher Spy." There
were fewer and fewer shows in the later years until it finally came
to an end on January 29, 1995. There was also a reunion special to mark
the station's 25th anniversary in 2002.
